Liverpool broke the deadlock with Blackburn after 19 minutes, Gerrard spread the play to Yossi Benayoun out wide left and, after the Israeli had maneuvered into the box, Steven Gerrard was back on the scene to slip in the opener. A cheeky handball from Jamie Carragher while grounded in the Reds? box was seen by the officials, allowing Keith Andrews to bring Rovers level from the spot. But then Anfield saw the sight they?ve been missing for much of the season as Fernando Torres was able to restored Liverpool?s lead from a neat Maxi pass. |

 | Unirea Urziceni 1 - 3 Liverpool (1589)

A disastrous start for Liverpool as Fernandes rose completely unmarked from a corner to power a header past Pepe Reina. It didn?t take long for the Reds to equalize, eleven minutes to be precise. Unirea failed to clear their lines and the ball dropped to Mascherano who smacked a scorcher from 25 yards out into the back of the net. The goal-fest continued when a Steven Gerrard free-kick dropped to Ryan Babel at the back post and he prodded in. 10 minutes after the break Yossi Benayoun teed up Steven Gerrard who drilled a low shot past the unsighted keeper. |

Arsenal had the better of the chances against Liverpool in the first half but in truth neither side looked like breaking the deadlock in opening 45. Midway through the second half Arsenal struck, Tomas Rosicky swung over a cross from the right and Abou Diaby rose high to crash a header into the Reds? net. The game ended in acrimony when Liverpool were denied a decision after Steven Gerrard?s injury time had free-kick struck Cesc Fabregas? raised hand. |
| | Liverpool 1 - 0 Everton (618)
English Premier League
06/02/2010
The first half of the Merseyside derby was more about the bad tackles and the furious tempo rather than actual goal mouth chances, with the main talking point concerning the sending off of Kyrgiakos in a filthy challenge with Fellaini that should have seen the Belgian dismissed too. Gerrard, after falling all to easily, went close with a free-kick while Cahill sent a point-blank header over the bar at the other end. Nine minutes after the break the 10-men of Liverpool struck as Dirk Kuyt was left unchallenged in the six yard box to head in a corner. Everton were impotent after falling behind and a disappointing day for the Toffees ended when Pineaar collected his second yellow at the death. |

After 57 goalless minutes at the Britannia, Sotirios Kyrgiakos (who was having a fine game at the back) became the unlikely Anfield hero in the absence of Gerrard and Torres as the Greek bundled home an Aurelio free-kick after Sorenson ballsed-up his attempt at reaching the ball. But Liverpool?s poor form/bad luck/loser complex continued in the 88th minute as Robert Huth equalised from a corner after the Potters had out-muscled the Reds in their own box. |

Eyebrows were raised when Benitez picked Dossena ahead of Benayoun and Babel of Liverpool?s left, and after thirty scrappy minutes where the Reds failed to control the game Nadir Belhadj thrashed home a stunning volley into Reina?s near post as Pompey moved ahead. Then came the big talking point as Javier Mascherano clattered into Ben Haim under the nose of ref Mason who whipped out a controversial red card to give the Argentine Christmas off. Liverpool threatened to fall apart after the break, Fernando Torres lucky to escape an early bath after elbowing Ben Haim in a challenge, and ten minutes from time Pompey wrapped up the points when Yebda was allowed to whip in a cross from the right and Frederic Piquionne beat Carragher to the ball before firing a volley across Riena in the far post. |

All eyes were on referee Howard Webb at Anfield after Steven Gerrard appeared to be hacked down in the box by William Gallas, but not penalty was awarded. Liverpool proceeded to dominate the match, and they were rewarded four minutes from the break when Almunia flapped at a free-kick that allowed Dirk Kuyt to plant home the opener. (First half highlights here.) The Gunners responded early in the second half as a sweeping attack crisscrossing the Liverpool backline was finished by Glen Johnson?s unfortunate own-goal. Johnson?s personal trauma continued in the 58th minute as the full-back was caught napping at the back-post and Andrei Arshavin capitalised with a thundering shot into Reina?s near post. |

The Viola levelled with a pacey attack in the 63rd minute, Gilardino picked up possession on the edge of the box and fed Martin Jorgensen out wide on the left, giving the Dane time and space to size up a shot and slap one past Cavalieri and into the bottom corner from 16 yards. Liverpool?s disastrous Champions League campaign ended on a sour note as young Reds defender Stephen Darby was caught in possession by Juan Vargas who crossed for Alberto Gilardino to seal victory for the Italians. |

English Premier League
21/11/2009
A world class one-handed save from Shay Given denied Martin Skrtel from heading Liverpool into a 5th minute lead as Liverpool began in attacking intent in front of the Kop. The Reds then lost Agger and Babel early doors, but despite their rejig they continued to dominate City with Steven Gerrard superbly denied by Toure just before the half hour. Minutes into the second half Liverpool deservedly struck, Gerrard whipped in a free-kick to the near post and Martin Skrtel beat Adebayor to the ball the score into the near post. In the 68th minute City levelled as Skrtel went awol at a corner allowing Emmanuel Adebayor the freedom of the box to pick his spot with a header. City, all of a sudden in firm control of the match, went on to take the lead as Tevez and Wright-Phillips combined before Stephen Ireland (offside?) was able to tap in number two. But Mark Hughes was left pulling his hair out seconds later as City?s backline immediately fell to pieces and Yossi Benayoun slid in Liverpool?s leveller. |

 | Lyon 1 - 1 Liverpool (1380)
UEFA Champions League
04/11/2009
In a bright opening at the Stade Gerland, Michel Bastos tested Reina after three minutes while Fernando Torres hit the target after 11 minutes for the Reds. Dirk Kuyt was the next Liverpool player to force a smart save from Lloris, and Kuyt then missed a golden opportunity when one-on-one with the home keeper. A brilliant save from Hugo Lloris denied Lucas, while Kuyt missed with an overhead-kick in the aftermath. But seven minutes from time the home crowd fell silent as sub Ryan Babel smacked an unstoppable 20-yarder past Lloris to send the Liverpudlians wild. A minute from time, after Torres had been withdrawn by Benitez, Liverpool?s dreams were shattered as Lisandro Lopez equalised after a mistake in the Merseysiders? defence gifted the hosts a leveller. |

Liverpool?s comeback hopes were rocked when Philipp Degen and then Jamie Carragher were sent off and Clint Dempsey had the freedom of the Cottage to score Fulham?s third. |
