Liverpool had a lot of possession early doors at the Reebok, just after the twenty minute mark Kuyt hit the bar and then minutes later Dirk Kuyt did put the Reds in front, heading home an Aurelio cross. In injury-time of the first-half, Gary Cahill thought he had equalised but the goal was ruled out for a foul on Reina by Nolan. Bolton showed a lot more fight in the second period and substitute Ricardo Gardner was unlucky to scuff his shot after rounding Reina (notice Agger colliding with the post.) Fernando Torres, on as a substitute, provided the killer second with just under twenty minutes remaining, El Nino played in a delightful cross with the outside of his right foot for Steven Gerrard who planted his header into the bottom corner. In the final minutes, Torres hit the post when well placed.
