After a goalless first half, it Schalke less than a minute to break the deadlock against Stuttgart after the break as Edu finished off an incisive attack from the home team. Stuttgart were behind for just four minutes before Serdar Tasci headed home the leveller from a free-kick. An action-packed start to the second half continued as Schalke retook the lead in the 55th minute when Stuttgart got their offside tactics completely wrong from a free-kick and Kevin Kuranyi benefitted from the open space to turn home number two. The win put Schalke in top spot, a point ahead of Bayern who face Freiberg on Saturday.
