Soccer / Calcio Serie ARoma, one point behind Inter at the start of the final day of the Serie A season, took a vital early lead against relegation-threatened Catania thanks to a scintillating solo goal by Mirko Vucinic. Fevers were noticeably running high when Vucinic and Terlizzi faced-off resulting in a pair of yellows. Roma had keeper Doni to thank for holding their lead at the break, the shot-stopper producing a wonder save to deny Silvertri from a yard out. Catania, needing a win to guarantee survival, missed a hosts of opportunities to level before the home crowd began celebrating at the news of Inters lead at fellow strugglers Parma. Cantania continued to try and control their own destiny, Biagiani crashed a shot against the bar. Terlizzi thought he had brought Catania level but his header was ruled out for offside, but they finally got their deserved equaliser to survive when Martinez turned home the ball after a late scrap in the box.
