The Azzuri scored first in the eighth minute when Di Natale struck a low, powerful shot from outside the box. Cyprus tied it in the 28th when Efstathios Aloneftis picked up a loose ball from a goalmouth scramble and sent it past Gianluigi Buffon. Di Natale got the winner in the second minute of injury time when he received a lob and fired the ball past goalkeeper Antonis Georgallidis from close range.
