Derby 1 - 2 Liverpool

Torres opened the scoring for Liverpool with a superb individual goal. Liverpool pressed for the second goal, but Derby were grateful to poor finishing to keep them in the game at the break. (First-half highlights here.) And the Rams made Liverpool pay for their missed opportunities as McEveley scored from a free-kick to bring the scores back level. Gerrard pulled a shot wide and Alonso saw his effort well saved as the Reds searched for a winner, whilst Giles Barnes missed a glorious opportunity for the home side. But in the end Gerrard stole the points for an under-par Liverpool, scoring from close range.
